Government of India
has setup National Informatics Centre to promote Informatics Culture in
the Government Departments and develop computer based management
information systems for decision support at various levels
National
Informatics Centre (NIC) of the Department of Information Technology is
providing network backbone and e-Governance support to Central
Government, State Governments, UT Administrations, Districts and other
Government bodies. It offers a wide range of ICT services including
Nationwide Communication Network for decentralized planning, improvement
in Government services and wider transparency of national and local
Governments. NIC assists in implementing Information Technology Projects,
in close collaboration with Central and State Governments, in the areas
of (a) Centrally sponsored schemes and Central sector schemes, (b) State
sector and State sponsored projects, and (c) District Administration
sponsored projects. NIC endeavors to ensure that the latest technology in
all areas of IT is available to its users
The organizational set
up of NIC encompasses its Headquarters at New Delhi, State Units in all
the State capitals and Union Territory Headquarters and District Centres in almost all the Districts of India. The Organization employs a
large pool of efficient technical manpower.
At the NIC Headquarters, a
large number of Application Divisions exist which provide total
Informatics Support to the Ministries and Departments of the Central
Government. NIC computer cells are located in almost all the Ministry
Bhawans of the Central Government and Apex Offices including the Prime
Minister’s Office, the Rashtrapati Bhawan and the Parliament House.
NIC has also introduced State-of-the Art Satellite Based Communications
Systems in all the Districts of the country, thus facilitating easy and
quick information flow both ways between the Districts. It has also
created full scale facilities even in the remote parts of the country.
At
present the centre is equipped with latest hardware and its own
communication network through Satellite Based VSAT's and leased line.
Since its inception, NIC, Jammu has played a major role in helping the
District Administration in completing various time bound tasks. The
Centre is of great help in extending the computer facilities to all most
all departments in general and particularly to District Development
Commissioner's Office. Round the clock Internet and E-Mail facilities
are available to Officers / Departments of the District. Trainings /
Workshops are organized from time to time for Officers / Officials of the
District to keep them updated about the latest facilities in the Office
and in the field of Information Technology. |
